In addition to being a partner and founder of Lex Lumina, Chris Sprigman is the Murray and Kathleen Bring Professor of Law and Co-Director of the Engelberg Center on Innovation Law and Policy at the New York University School of Law, where he teaches intellectual property law, antitrust, torts, and comparative constitutional law.
Over the course of his career, Chris has handled high-stakes litigation and deal-making at top national law firms. Chris also served as Appellate Counsel at the Antitrust Division of the United States Department of Justice (1999-2001). In all, Chris has more than a quarter-century of experience in intellectual property litigation, counseling, licensing, and acquisitions, particularly in the areas of copyright and trademark law. He also has substantial experience in antitrust and other complex commercial litigation and counseling.
Chris is the author of numerous articles both in law reviews and in the popular press, as well as a book, The Knockoff Economy: How Imitation Sparks Innovation (Oxford University Press) (with Kal Raustiala), and a leading casebook in copyright law, Copyright Law: Cases and Materials (with Jeanne Fromer). Chris’s research focuses on how legal rules affect innovation and the deployment of new technologies.
