Elizabeth has over thirty years of experience handling high-stakes patent, trademark, and copyright litigation in the federal district courts, federal courts of appeals, and the International Trade Commission. She has worked with diverse technologies, including semiconductor design and fabrication, optical computer mice, user interfaces for smart TVs, rare earth magnets, and medical devices, all at top national law firms. She has seen how unfocused discovery multiplies the cost of litigation, so she takes a more efficient approach, focused on developing evidence relevant to the specific disputed issues in each individual matter.
Elizabeth’s pro bono work has included representing cult critics, student activists and webcasters, victims of human trafficking, undocumented “dreamers,” veterans, and hot yoga instructors. From before 2015 to 2022, she represented Public.Resource.org in a copyright case concerning the scope of the government edicts doctrine, animated by the principle that no one can own the law. In 2020, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Public Resource, holding that because the annotations in the Official Code of Georgia, Annotated are authored by an arm of the legislature in the course of its legislative duties, they are ineligible for copyright protection. Since 2016, Elizabeth has represented a young woman who came to the United States as an unaccompanied minor in her immigration proceedings and her application for permanent residency. in connection with the Amica Center for Immigrant Rights (formerly known as Capitol Area Immigrant’s Rights Coalition).
